Ignatios the Deacon
   Prolific ninth-century writer, whose works include the biographies (vitae [q.v.]) of patriarchs Tarasios and Nikephoros I (qq.v.), as well as those of Gregory of Dakapolis and George of Amastris (qq.v.). He also wrote poetry, a lampoon of Thomas the Slav (q.v.), letters, funeral elegies, and other works (including now lost ones) listed in the Souda (q.v.).
